Bringing the Outdoors In: With the Sounds of Lincolnshire.
Nature has an extraordinary ability to restore calm, clear the mind, and support overall health and wellbeing. However, for many people—whether due to illness, mobility challenges, or busy indoor routines—getting outside to experience the natural world isn’t always possible.
To help bridge this gap, the Sounds of Lincolnshire project was created in collaboration with SoundLincs. By capturing rich, immersive field recordings across various outdoor landscapes in Lincolnshire, we aim to bring the soothing sights and sounds of the county directly inside. These recordings offer accessible rest, relaxation, and wellness support for anyone needing a moment of peaceful connection with nature.
How to get the most out of the recordings
The recordings can be used at any time of the day to evoke a sense of peace and tranquillity. The option is available to everyone to choose from watching the video with views of the area or downloading the audio to be fully emersed in the sounds.
It is suggested that you give yourself time and space to enjoy the recordings and either lie down or sit in a comfortable position. Ensure there will be no distractions and use this time to fully relax.
If listening to audio only why not make it into a fully immersive relaxation experience and download the recordings and pop them on repeat loop play.
Focus on your breath being aware of your breath as it enters and leaves your body.
Take your attention to the sounds of Lincolnshire
Noticing the sounds in the air the creatures and birds and all the ambient sounds around.
Take yourself into that sound and imagine yourself there.
Allow all the stresses and stains of everyday life to be set aside as you enjoy these moment.
If you wish to be supported in sleep it could be an idea to use a headband with built in speakers. As you are laid there practice some box breathing and gently allow the sounds to support you as you drift off to sleep.
SoundLincs recorded at the following venues.
Sounds of Lincolnshire
Green Synergy Community Garden Hillside Site
Based in the city of Lincoln Green Synergy we visited Hillside Garden a fabulous space that supports people to socialise, learn and thrive through gardening and horticulture. Working with disadvantaged communities and with people with additional needs, including mental health conditions, learning difficulties, physical difficulties, long term health problems and unemployment. Hillside Garden really is a space for everyone and provides a much-needed resource in the area. The Lincolnshire Sleep Hub have worked with them throughout our 3 year project hosting our first wellbeing to sleep well event in the garden in 2025.
This recording features a vibrant array of familiar garden and songbirds:
Eurasian Blackbird, European Greenfinch, Coal Tit, Common Wood-Pigeon, Song Thrush, European Goldfinch, Dunnock, House Sparrow, Eurasian Blue Tit, Common Chaffinch, European Robin, and Eurasian Wren
The Askerfield Project
Set on a 13.5 acre smallholding in Friskney on the East Coast providing the perfect backdrop for the sounds of rural Lincolnshire.
Sheep, goats, chickens, ducks and a goose called Wally can all be heard as we record a walk around Askerfield. Listen out for the braying of Boris the donkey and his three miniature friends.
The Askerfield Project is a vital part of the community offering a place to grow through experience for people of all ages. Supporting them to develop confidence, self-esteem and raise aspirations.

Hartsholme Country Park
This is my personal favourite recording a place I have only visited once in my time of working in Lincolnshire but it made an impact.
A popular spot with locals and those travelling further afield to find this peaceful space. In the southwest of Lincoln and adjacent to Swanholme lakes nature reserve. The park comprises of Victorian Landscaped gardens and a large reservoir woodlands and grasslands. Paths and woodland to help you take in the beauty of nature. Teeming with biodiversity, the country park delivered an rich mix of woodland and water birds. The walk around the park captured many birds in song and the sounds of the lake and foliage around
European Robin, Eurasian Wren, Eurasian Blue Tit, Coal Tit, Song Thrush, Great Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Mallard, Carrion Crow, Eurasian Siskin, Common Chiffchaff, and Eurasian Moorhen,
Gibraltar Point
A beautiful stretch of unspoilt coastline running southwards from the edge of Skegness to the mouth of The Wash. Known for the stunning views and diversity of wildlife. No birdsong was detected in the recording at Gibraltar Point, this coastal reserve provided this vibrant soundscape focused on the tranquil, rhythmic movement of the sea and coastal winds. The beach hosts a selection of sailboats and you hear their movement bringing a new dimension to the recording.
