Sound Baths with Peter Ison
A bath? With sound?
No Bubbles no water.
No repetitive chorus or earworm lyrics.
A sound bath is a meditative journey and an immersive experience where participants are “bathed” in sound waves. Attendees lay down on a yoga mat or maybe get comfortable in a reclining chair. Creating a cocoon for comfort, eyes closed welcoming deep relaxation and the vibrations to wash over them. Each experience is unique with no two sound baths the same and each practitioner has their own style. The sound is created by instruments which often include crystal or metal bowls, gongs, drums, tuning forks, chimes and sometimes the practitioner’s voice.

How Does It Help With Sleep?
There’s a reason sound baths are becoming popular in yoga studios, wellness retreats, and even some therapy clinics. The sounds used in a sound bath create frequencies that can help shift your brainwaves from active (beta) into more relaxed states (alpha and theta). That means: less monkey mind, more dreamy calm.
People who use sound baths for sleep often say they feel their body literally “let go” during the session. Some even fall asleep mid-session—and that’s kind of the point.
What Science Has to Say
While research is still catching up to this ancient practice, some studies suggest that sound-based therapy can reduce stress and anxiety, lower heart rate, and even help with chronic pain. And since stress is one of the biggest sleep thieves out there, anything that helps reduce it is already a win.
As an avid fan of a sound bath, I’m sure you will recognise from my enthusiasm during the conversation, I had the absolute pleasure of talking with Peter Ison of Tranquil Awakenings. Hearing about his journey towards becoming a Sound therapist and the benefits of sound to assist with sleep and wellbeing.
