Become a Trained Sleep Talker
Conversation and Actions to Support Better Sleep.

Sleep plays a vital role in our physical health, mental wellbeing and ability to cope with everyday life. Yet many people struggle to get the restorative sleep they need. If you work or volunteer with carers, neurodivergent people, people with learning difficulties or disabilities, or those experiencing peri-menopause or menopause, you could make a real difference by becoming a Sleep Talker.

The Lincolnshire Sleep Hub offers fully funded, CPD-accredited Sleep Talker training, delivered online, giving professionals and volunteers the knowledge, skills and resources they need to confidently talk about sleep and support others.

What is Sleep Talker Training?

Sleep Talker training equips professionals and volunteers to recognise common sleep problems and have supportive conversations about sleep.

A Sleep Talker can provide practical information and hints and tips to help people work towards more restorative sleep, while recognising when someone may need additional support or signposting.

The training uses a train-the-trainer approach. This means that, once trained, Sleep Talkers can share their knowledge and use the available resources within their own organisations and networks.

It is a practical way to extend the reach of sleep advice and wellbeing support across Lincolnshire.

Who is the training for?

Available to professions and volunteers supporting adults across Lincolnshire. Funded by the National lottery community fund the train the trainer format is ideal for those who are.

  • A professional carer
  • An unpaid carer or someone working with carers
  • A community connector or community professional
  • A befriender
  • A volunteer supporting adults
  • Working with neurodivergent people
  • Supporting people with learning difficulties or disabilities
  • Supporting people experiencing peri-menopause or menopause
  • Working for an organisation that provides support to any of these groups

Whether you work directly with people or provide community-based support, becoming a Sleep Talker can give you an additional skill that can be incorporated into your existing role.

Why is Sleep Talking important?

Sleep problems can affect almost every aspect of daily life, including mood, concentration, energy and general wellbeing.

Having trained Sleep Talkers within organisations and communities can help make conversations about sleep more accessible.

The Sleep Talker CPD course is designed to give you practical knowledge that you can use in your existing role.

By completing the training, you will learn how to:

  • Understand the principles and practice of the Sleep Talker role
  • Understand the importance of sleep and sleep hygiene
  • Identify sleep problems, triggers and associations
  • Recognise health conditions that may affect sleep
  • Know when and where to signpost someone for further support
  • Have confident conversations about sleep and related issues
  • Deliver Sleep Talker training and sessions using the available resources

The programme also includes pre-course learning, post-course evaluation and regular online network meetings where Sleep Talkers can discuss good practice, developments and case studies.

Fully funded CPD training – delivered online

One of the biggest benefits of the programme is that Sleep Talker training is fully funded.

Training is delivered over two half-day sessions, from 9.30am to 12.30pm. You must be available to attend both sessions during your chosen month. Once you have completed the training and post-course evaluation, you will receive CPD certification, Sleep Talker manual and have access to downloadable Sleep Talker resources and ongoing support. So you can then train colleagues and volunteers within your organisation to support those conversations and implement strategies to help people gain more restorative and restful sleep.
This makes the programme an excellent opportunity to develop your professional knowledge without the cost of a typical CPD course.
