developmentplus and Lumina
As is fast becoming a new tradition meetings don’t always have to take place face to face. I have just finished a call with Stuart of developmentplus a wonderful organisation that support and empower many local people. They should be on your radar. Stuart told me about the vision and aims of developmentplus and also about Lumina the social enterprise that supports the organisation. I was very impressed and felt I had to share. As you can see their vision and aims are congruent with The Sleep Charity and our work in the Lincolnshire area.
I was especially intrigued about Zen Fest it sounds fabulous and right up my street.
Vision
Providing hope, empowerment and support to people through our community-based projects
Aims
- To develop capacity and skills of people in such a way that they are better able to participate more fully in society.
- Provide opportunities that inspire and build resilience in people and their communities.
- To provide a range of responsive services for the people of Lincolnshire that will improve their wellbeing and mental health, promoting hope and sustainable personal progression.
I’m Stuart,
I started at developmentplus 6 years ago as a development worker on a project called Better Together.
That programme has gone from strength to strength supporting people around Lincoln towards positive mental health, alongside Green Synergy and Abbey Access Training it offers one to one mentoring, art classes, tai chi, garden activities and training. We have other projects that work with rough sleepers, ex offenders and getting people back to work. As with all charities, we started to find getting funding more of a challenge so we had to look at ways of diversifying our income.
I’m now the Social Enterpise Development Manager and have started up Lumina which is all about mindful wellbeing for all across the county, from work places to the general public, investment in your own mental wellbeing will also benefit developmentplus projects. Our offerings range from 1 hour tasters to a full day retreat.
We have a day retreat coming up on Saturday 7th September.
The day consists of
- Mindfulness
- Foraging
- Drumming
- Gong bath
- Several spiritual/wellbeing stalls offering things from healing to gifts
- Food will be available on the full day and various other tickets
